When K2 introduced the PASSPORT - the feedback from their Team riders, Retail partners, and the conversations we’ve had in the liftlines (Whattup Alpental and Brighton Locals?!) - we knew we had a winner.
The waist width, sidecut, camber profile, and taper were spot on - but some riders we spoke to were looking for something a bit more robust for higher speeds and steeper terrain, and we said…”let’s make some prototypes.” We did, they were okay, so we made some more, and some more, and they f#cking ruled.
The result of proto round #3… the COMMONWEALTH - using the same shape and geometry that has made the Passport successful, with a more “beefed up” feature set for riders looking for something a bit more demanding. Our A1 Core gets wrapped in a heavier weight tri-axial fiberglass, which is then layered in our patented Spectral Braid - a piece of technology that we developed that allows you to fine tune the tip-to-tail flex of the snowboard independently from the torsional flex - it rules, we promise. We topped it all off with a wax infused sintered 4001 base to make sure you’re not getting stuck in the flats.
We believe that everyone should be able to experience the mountains - so the Commonwealth was designed and tested for all-genders. Starting at a 146 and sizing all of the way up to 166W-, this snowboard’s construction, waist width, and flex profile is scaled to meet the needs of the riders for each respective size.
Rider Type: All Mountain / Freeride
Shape: Directional
Flex: 7/10
Rocker: Traditional Camber
Ability Level: Intermediate / Advanced
Rocker Type
Camber – The most responsive camber profile in the line features camber running from in front of the front foot to the tail of the board. This gives the rider the most precision and control possible in any terrain.
Flex
Flex Rating – 7 (1 Playful - 10 Precise)
Core
A1 Core – Lightweight, snappy, and durable, the all-new A1 Core is made from three renewable species of timber - bamboo, aspen, and paulownia. Aspen-dominant to highlight the snap and response of this wood, it's combined with bamboo at 30 ° underfoot to increase strength, supercharge the edge-to-edge response, and increase the pressure distribution along the edge. They've also placed lightweight paulownia in the tip and tail help to reduce swing weight.
Laminates
Triaxial Glass – A glass laminate with diagonal layers that adds torsional stiffness for increased stability and improved edge hold. The fibers three layers of fibers are woven at 45° , 45° , and 0° . This makes for a more responsive ride longitudinally and torsionally.
Spectral Braid™ – K2’s Patented Spectral Braid is a first-of-its-kind variable angle reinforcement that allows for precision tuned torsion and flex by altering the fiber orientation along the length of the snowboards. This makes snowboards feel lively, energetic, and remarkably composed.
Base
Wax-Infused Sintered 4001 Base – Built using the hardest and fasted sintered base material on the market, the Wax-Infused Sintered 4001 Base holds wax longer than other sintered bases for smoother, longer lasting glide.
Topsheet
SnoPhobic Topsheet – Helps eliminate snow buildup when it gets deep.
