Let us take you back to 1999, when two fine gentlemen - Brent and Chris - settled in Wanaka after chasing phat pow-pow across snow resorts around the world.

Fueled by their passion for skiing and snowboarding, they opened their first store, BASE, right in the heart of Wanaka township. The OG store had it all: streetwear, ski and snowboard hardware, outerwear and rentals. Jeez - it’s a wonder how they fit it all in there!

From that humble beginning, the Base crew didn’t just grow - they levelled up. The Base Ultimate Workshop, now led by the legendary Raffs (with 20+ years of tuning wizardry), services all rental and demo fleets, and offers premium ski and snowboard tuning and repairs with next-day turnaround on most jobs. If your gear needs love, this is where it happens.

At the same time, our Base Ultimate Rentals operation evolved into one of the best in the biz. Our entire rental fleet is replaced every 1–2 seasons, and we offer two tiers of equipment so you can ride in a setup that suits your skill and style - whether you're carving corduroy or heading out on a heli-ski mission. Every piece is freshly tuned before pickup, and with flexible drop-off locations, we make your day on the hill as easy as it should be.

The Base family continues to expand with two seasonal legends: Rocket Rentals in winter, and the Bike Lounge come summer.

Rocket Rentals is all about accessible, no-fuss ski and snowboard rentals - perfect for anyone who want quality gear at wallet-friendly prices, without sacrificing performance.

In the warmer months, the Bike Lounge takes over as our go-to bike hub. With high-quality hardtail, e-mountain, and kids’ bikes, plus workshop services and local trail knowledge, it’s the perfect base for any two-wheeled adventure.
