The Response Rating is based primarily on the materials used in the baseplate and hi-back as well as team and tester feedback. A softer flexing binding will give you a more relaxed and forgiving ride, while a stiffer flexing binding will give you a more reactive and aggressive ride. Keep in mind that stiffer doesn't necessarily mean better, you should pick the binding that best fits your style. The rating is based only as a comparison between Burton bindings with one being the softest and ten the stiffest.
