CELEBRATING K2 SNOWBOARDS 21ST BIRTHDAY

24 Jul 2008 - K2 snowboards celebrated their 21st birthday at Snow Park NZ on Saturday evening under the lights.

K2 snowboards celebrated their 21st birthday at Snow Park NZ on Saturday evening under the lights.  It was celebrated with a relaxed, fun jam format competition, with free registration and prizes for every single person who registered. Even Snow Park general manager Sam Lee walked away with a prize!

The day began with K2 setting up a demo tent for all to enjoy, and even though the weather was over cast, the crew from K2 was kept busy setting up boards for customers to test out and enjoy.

The event began at 5.30 pm, with over 70 competitors heading out to the 1st feature which was a butter box.  From there they moved onto the smooth battleship, the down box and then finished off with a session on the long box to impress the crowds gathered at the Woolshed Bar and Restaurant. The event saw a range of ages from 10- 34 getting involved. Jamie Basset was on the mega phone keeping the crowd amped and the riders’ stoaked.

Antony Piggins (18), new to the Wanaka snowboard scene, said the event was “Well organized and super sick.  I’m defiantly coming back for K2s 22nd birthday.  So many prizes and everyone was killing it”.

Judges were given color-coded tokens to hand to the riders as they wowed them with their tricks.  The riders then got to head inside and redeem their tokens for prizes.  The prize list was huge, with K2, Smith, Sessions, and Base all donating product.  Hoodies, hats, make up bags, boxers, belts and so much more were given out. K2 team riders Stef Zeestraten, Heath Patterson, Bex Sinclair and Kiri Binnersly were there to help out with the judging and prizes, as were the crew from base and plenty more of K2s friends and family.

The “finals” were held in the Woolshed Bar and Restaurant, with a battle of paper scissors and rock for the top ten riders for both male and female.  Leon Mackay represented the Wanaka locals, beating out Seamus O’Conner for a K2 dub dub dub board.  Seamus walked away with a sweet set of bindings.  In the girls Charlotte Trundle came second to Queenstown TNT rider Olivia Kalb.  Olivia threw down a Paper to beat out Charlotte and took away a K2 va va voom bored.

The night was finished off with a huge K2 birthday cake, and a 21 shot salute. A great night was had by all!
